Nexus Rift: Battle of Dimensions – Rulebook

1. Introduction

Welcome to Nexus Rift: Battle of Dimensions! This game blends strategic card mechanics with tactical battles on a dynamic board. Build your deck, manage your energy, and lead your units to victory by destroying your opponent’s castle.

2. Objective

Destroy your opponent’s castle to win the game.

3. Setup

Deck Building

  • Deck size: 30 cards.
  • Card limits: Max 4 copies per card, 1 copy per legendary card.
  • Faction limits: Max 2 factions per deck.

Starting Setup

  • Game board: 7 rows and 7 columns.
  • Castles: Placed at the edge of each player’s side, occupying the middle 3 tiles.
  • Hand: Shuffle your deck and draw 5 cards. Perform a mulligan if desired.

Mulligan Players may discard any number of cards from their hand and draw an equal number from their deck. Shuffle the discarded cards back into the deck.

First Player Randomly determine who goes first.

Starting Energy Each player starts with 10 Energy.

4. Turn Sequence

Each turn consists of the following steps:

Draw Phase
Draw until you have 5 cards. If you have fewer than 5 cards, draw from your deck until you reach 5.

Gain Energy
Gain 3 Energy per turn (4 if controlling the Nexus Rift), up to a maximum of 10 Energy.

Play Cards or Perform Actions:

  • Play a Character Card: Place a character card on the board. Units cannot act the turn they are played unless they have the “Quick” ability.
  • Play an Action Card: Use an action card from your hand and execute its effect immediately.
  • Select a Character: Perform any desired actions (move, basic attacks, use abilities) as long as you have enough AP.

End Turn
End your turn, and the next player begins their turn.

Special Rules

  • Quick: Units with Quick can act immediately with 1 AP after being played.
  • Energy Management: Use Energy to play cards and perform actions.
  • Positioning: Control key positions like the Nexus Rift by strategically placing and moving units.

Use of Action Points (AP)

  • Movement: Units can move multiple times during their turn, depending on available AP.
  • Basic Attacks: Units can perform multiple basic attacks during their turn, depending on available AP.
  • Abilities: Abilities can only be activated once per turn, regardless of AP.

5. Game Board and Key Positions

Castles

  • Location: Edge of each player’s side, occupying the middle 3 tiles.
  • Health: 15 HP.

Nexus Rift

  • Location: Center of the game board.
  • Control Bonus: Gain 1 extra Energy per turn.

6. Cards and Action Points

Character Cards

  • Description: Units on the game board with stats like HP, ATK, SPD, RNG, and AP.
  • Play: Use Energy to play units.

Action Cards

  • Description: Special cards with effects like attacks, healing, or buffs.
  • Play: Use Energy to play action cards. Execute the effect immediately.

Character Card Stats

  • HP: The amount of damage a unit can take.
  • ATK: The amount of damage a unit deals.
  • SPD: The number of tiles a unit can move per AP.
  • RNG: The range over which a unit can attack or use an ability.
  • AP: The number of Action Points a unit has for performing actions.

7. Strategic Elements

Energy Management

  • Collecting Energy: Gain 1 Energy per turn (2 if controlling the Nexus Rift).
  • Smart Energy Use: Effectively use Energy to play cards and perform actions.

Positioning

  • Unit Placement: Control key positions like the Nexus Rift.
  • Movement: Move units to strategic positions to attack and avoid enemy attacks.

Control of the Nexus Rift

  • Advantage: Gain extra Energy when controlling the Nexus Rift.

8. Common Terms

  • Armor: Reduces the amount of damage a unit takes from an attack. Minimum damage is always 1.
  • Stealth: Makes a unit invisible to enemy units until it attacks or moves next to an enemy unit.
  • Quick: Unit can act immediately with 1 AP after being placed.
  • Passive: Always active, requires no AP or Energy.
  • Charge Attack: Deals extra damage on the first attack after moving.
  • Flying: Unit can move over other units and obstacles; immune to attacks with less than 2 RNG.
  • Range: The distance an attack or ability can cover, measured in tiles.
  • Area of Effect (AoE): Deals damage to multiple targets within a specific area.
  • Buff and Debuff: Buffs strengthen units, while debuffs weaken enemy units.
  • Card Draw: The number of cards a player draws from their deck.

9. End of the Game

The game ends when a player destroys their opponent’s castle. The player who destroys the enemy castle first wins the game.
